Nutmeg's a little Nuts!

Chad takes Myshel to seminary around 6AM and that's when I start my day, too. From the moment my feet touch the floor, Nutmeg is by my side. She'll follow me wherever I go throughout the house. When I go into the bathroom, she'll sit outside the door and scratch at it until I come out. If I sit down, she sits on my lap. You might think that it's because she loves me so much, but it's not. She's afraid I'm going to leave her when I go to get Myshel from seminary at 6:50AM. When I go out to warm up the car and leave her in the house, she runs upstairs to Vance's bedroom window and watches me until I come back in. She promptly meets me at the door and again is my shadow. When I tell her it's time to go, she'll run to the closet where we keep her leash and sit, her tail wagging, barely able to contain her excitement. Once you put on her leash and she hears it click shut, she's on her feet again and heading for the door. It's rather pathetic

Once we get in the car she settles down. Once we're there, though, she'll pace until I move my seat back and let her sit on my lap. Then she'll sit there and watch the church window and the the door and back to the window until Myshel comes out. Once Myshe is in the car she jumps over to her and covers her in all kinds of kisses and calmly sits down on her lap.

Once we get home
, she runs off and does her thing and my shadow is gone until the next day.

(I don't know why my blog started underlining some things and not others, but it's very, very annoying!!!!! Is that because of Firefox???)

Happy Birthday to Nutmeg!

Today is Nutmeg's birthday!
I know it's kind of silly that I'm posting about Nutmeg's birthday, but McKaylie made me promise that I would. She said Nutmeg would be sad if I didn't. (she makes me laugh) So, here I am saying happy birthday to my dog. She is a member of our family, though. She wormed her way right into our hearts the moment we held her. Last December, Chad and I just happen to find a little pet store that had very few animals, mostly animal supplies. It was small and rather dirty and the smell of cigarette smoke made my eyes water. We were getting ready to leave when something in the back of the store caught Chad's eye. They had a litter of puppies, about 9 of them, all girls. We held one and they were so cute, but we left. A few days later, I admitted to Chad that I couldn't stop thinking about the puppies in that dirty place. He said, "yeah, me too." We decided that we'd go back and see if there were any left and just see how we felt, think about it for another day and if we still wanted one, we'd go back the next day and get one. That was the plan.
On the way there, Chad told me that the dog would be my Christmas present, if we got one.
We went and looked at the puppies and I held a couple of them, but didn't really want any. They were cute, but didn't grab my heart. I could have walked away. But then Chad said, "Cindy, here, hold this one".
That was it. I was done. I don't know what it was about her, but she had me. I told Chad that I couldn't leave her there that night; I wanted to take her home right then. He smiled and said, "Merry Christmas".
And she turned out to be the best Christmas present, ever!
She is a sheltie/basset hound mix, which is just kind of crazy.
When we brought her home, she weighed about 3 pounds and was just the cutest little thing ever. We got her the smallest tag we could find and it still looked huge on her. We also put a bell on her so we could tell where she was, because she had a way of sneaking up under your feet and you wouldn't know she was there and step on her.
She weighs about 18 pounds now and I don't think she'll get much bigger.
She used to sleep on the computer desk while I would blog. Now she sleeps at my feet while I blog.

We joke around about how we saved her from the pet store by bringing her home that day. Really, I think, that we were suppose to find her that day. She was in a little store that we never had gone in before even though we'd seen it a hundred times. That day we decided on a whim to go in and that's when we found her. She was ment to be with us.

She's so spoiled and she knows it, but we love her all the more!
Happy Birthday Nutmeg!

Our Little Houdini............

We don't have a fenced yard here at our summer home, so when we put Nutmeg outside to do her stuff, we have to put her on a chain. We thought this was a good idea and she wouldn't ever have to be out there on it for very long. She showed us rather quickly, though, that she could get off the chain. She broke one collar and managed to get the other collar off her neck over her head. It didn't matter how snug we had it around her neck either, she would worm her way out of it. So, thinking that we are the more intelligent of the two species, we bought her a harness. This would work because she'd have to not only get her head out, but her two front legs and it fit snuggled right behind her from legs. That lasted all of about a day, seriously! We couldn't believe that she was getting out of the harness or figure out how. We decided to spy on her and see exactly how she was doing it. We put her out there on it and the watched her from inside the house. After she was done with her "business" (she'll stay on the chain to do that) she would pull the chain taut and slip right out of the harness, just like that. It didn't even look like it took much effort for her. She put her head down and manuevered her legs right out of that harness. So, we've concluded that we are not the more intelligent species or that Nutmeg is a little Houdini Dog. Either way, our house in Topsham will have a fenced yard and this will no longer be an issue.............one more week and we get the keys!
