Flirting.....................

I had to laugh the other day when I read MaineMom's blog about how her first grader's class was talking about having boyfriend/girlfriends. I thought of McKaylie telling me that her "boyfriend" broke up with her and was another girl's boyfriend and then broke up with that girl to be McKaylie's boyfriend again. She's in Kindergarten, for crying out loud!! So, I enjoyed knowing that it's not just my daughter who's playing boyfriend/girlfriend a little earlier than I'd like. I think it's kind of cute. (as long as it stays innocent!)

However..................Last night as I waited at the church for my kids to get done with their activites, I watched Myshel. Myshel is used to having a brother to pick on and try to pick a fight with. Of course, with her brother, he picks back. He doesn't just stand there and take it. Last night, though, I watched her "picking/pestering" another boy. It wasn't anything major. Nothing much different than what she'd do with Vance. She kept pestering him, trying to egg him on and he took it and just played along, almost encouraging her to keep it up. He's a very well-mannered young man and one of the few in our ward that I like, and that Myshel likes as well. They were being a little roudy considering they were in the church, so, I told Myshel to quit and remember where she was. Patrick, the young man, said, "it's ok, she's not bothering me". His scout master said "yes, but it's bothering her mother". I told her, "that's enough in the church" and it ended. They walked off. I watched them go and knew that I'd just witnessed for the first time my daughter flirting with a boy and he was enjoying it and basically flirting back. It was completely innocent. They didn't do anything wrong........BUT, she's only 13..........and he's 16. It's an unsettling thought to me. I went home and emailed Chad, told him all about it, because I'm not going to be the only parent of Myshel's to have that thought burned into their mind. I know that no matter how much I deny it, my kids will grow up, but, that doesn't mean I have to enjoy everything about it! McKaylie talking about boyfriends was cute. Myshel flirting with boys, not so much!

Words to Hate.............

Chad will tell you that the word in my vocabulary that he hates the most is "fine". When I'm mad and he asked if I'm ok, I say "I'm fine", or when I want him to do something and he doesn't, I say, "fine, I'll do it myself" Sometimes, it's just one of those things....."Cindy, I can't do anything about it"..................."FINE"! I know he doesn't like it, that's probably why I use it half the time. I think that's why my kids use the words that I hate, "I don't know" and "nothing". "Why, did you do that?"..........."I don't know". Why didn't you do your homeswork?".............."I don't know". "Where is your brother, you're suppose to be watching him?".................."I don't know". "Why are you upset?"...................."I don't know". OR "What are you doing?"................."nothing" "What's wrong?"..............."nothing" "What's this?"..............."nothing" "What do you want to do today?"..............."nothing". It makes me crazy! I think I should add them to the DO NOT USE word list in our house! (Sometimes, MOM is on that list!)

A little change is good................

It seems like every time Chad leaves I re-arrange the furniture somewhere in the house. Even when he just leaves for a short time. Chad probably comes home wondering what I've changed in the house this time. I don't know why I do it, maybe it's just busy work. I haven't quite figured that part out yet. So, true to form, I've re-arranged my bedroom, a little. I moved our TV armoire out and it had to go somewhere..................so I had to re-arrange the computer room to make room for it down there. A week into this deployment and 2 rooms have changed, just think of what could happen after 6 1/2 months!

McKaylie's teeth

McKaylie's teeth..........oh boy, McKaylie's teeth. She has had trouble with her teeth for several years. The dentist has told us that she has very soft, brittle teeth. (kind of sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it) She has been to the dentist more times than Myshel and Vance put together. No matter how much we brush and floss and care for them they still get cavitites very easily and the fillings don't like to stay in. (Thank heaven, for dental insurance!) We have a great dentist, though. He has fixed fillings and tried to help her front teeth look better sooooo many times and most of those times without any cost to us. We love Dr. Rosenblum, but we'd rather not have to see him as often. We were told that her permanent teeth would probably be stronger and we just needed to get through the baby teeth and things would get better. So, we were ecstatic that her first tooth was loose........finally we can start to get rid of these terrible little problems. We came to find out, however, that these little gems weren't going out without a fight! Even though, her tooth was loose, her permanent tooth wasn't waiting. It started coming in behind it. I gave her a week to work her tooth out, but she wouldn't try. She said it hurt too much and she wasn't about to let me touch it. So we went to the dentist this morning...............

We were told, that her permanent tooth is almost twice the size of her baby tooth (which was easy to see) and the other bottom tooth would be coming in soon and it would do the same thing, come in behind the baby tooth. So, the dentist decided that it would be in her best interest and to prevent more trips and shots later, that he should pull all 4, yes, that right 4, bottom teeth. That way the permanent front teeth would push their way forward and be somewhat straight. ( He didn't fail to mention that when the other two came in they'd be very crowded and that they'd start looking at braces around 9-10 years old, depending on how fast her permanent teeth come in.)

McKaylie spent the morning biting down on a gauze pad and the rest of the day taking motrin every 6 hours. She's been nibbling on soft foods from the side of her mouth and talking with a lisp, too. I bet wiggling that tooth out herself, doesn't seem so bad, now!

When it rains, it pours!

And it has been raining, literally, for days! But, that's not the only thing I ment. I'm sure that right now I have a rather negative outlook on things, and I'm sure that will change over time. This weekend, however, is not going to help that. Besides the fact that it was, I swear, like the longest weekend ever in history, especially Sunday, I had a migraine! And, even though I knew that I'd probably be getting one soon because of the stress before and after Chad leaving, I put off picking up my prescription from the pharmacy until it was too late on Friday. I don't know if it was open Saturday morning, but it doesn't matter, the migraine didn't kick in until later Saturday afternoon, well after the pharmacy was closed. So, I suffered through it.............. and so did my kids. I think I might have even scared off one of Myshel's friends that stopped by (sorry about that, really) My kids are pretty good though. They do understand how hard it is and they try and help.........most of the time. Sometimes you could just kick yourself for putting things off, you know! Although my headache is still there some, I do feel like I could probably survive today. And do you know what the first thing I did this morning was (in the rain)? You guessed it, I picked up my prescription!
