Homebody?????
If I had to describe myself, I would say that I am somewhat of a homebody. I mean I do like getting out and doing things, but I am very happy just being at home. So weeks like these get to be a little crazy for me..............
In the next two and a half weeks, I have Vance's orchestra concert, McKaylie's kindergarten end of year party, a field trip to the zoo, the 5th grade picnic, Myshel's orchestra concert, Vance's orchestra end of year party, Sewell's Point Elementary School Carnival, Vance's award ceremony, Vance's 5th grade promotion ceremony, 3- 4 hour school days, 1- 2 hour school day, Myshel's doctor's appointment, McKaylie's doctor's appointment, a Tide's baseball game and a sleepover in the outfield, a ward picnic, an enterprise support group potluck/craft day, an enterprise support group meeting, girl's camp and a trip to Water Country USA and that's not counting all the regular church meetings and activites.
I just need to remember to breathe, right?

Roses in Bloom..........
I've always loved the mini rose and carnation plants that you can buy in the stores. They always look so pretty and have wonderful little flowers on them. BUT, when I've bought them, they always die! I think Chad bought this mini rose plant for me. It's probably been a couple of years now that I've had it. I don't remember for sure. This little plant has almost died so many times, it's amazing that it's even here. I've been trying to nurse it back to health since I brought it home, I think. I must have done something right this spring, though, because it's been growing like crazy and looks wonderful. The best part, of course, it has two rose buds.
I was so excited when I first saw them growing. It had been so long since we bought this plant that I didn't even remember what color the flowers were. It's been fun watching the buds grow and the plant getting new leaves. Now we'll get to see the flowers open! I hope it will keep flowering for awhile. I'm just so excited that it's not dead!

On the Other End of the Line......................
After talking to Chad from his ship yesterday, and talking to my sister who lives in Bulgaria right now, I had to marvel somewhat at the miracles of today. Both are around 7000 miles away from where I live and yet, they both picked up a phone and dialed my house directly. I was able to talk to them, in real time, just like I would a neighbor in Norfolk. From 7000 miles away I got to hear my sister tell me about her kids and how life is going and I got to hear my husband laugh because I told him he doesn't really work while he's out there. And the best part, I got to HEAR him say I love you, from half way around the world, while he's sitting out in the middle of the water and I'm sitting here in my living room. It make you feel like you're just a little bit closer. That's pretty impressive in my book!
Bedtime??
I sent my kids to bed last night. I had planned on following them up and getting them settled and all that bed time "stuff", but I got distracted. I didn't come up right away like I had planned. When I was walking up the stairs I though, "it's awefully quiet, could they have fallen asleep already?" When I got to the top of the stairs this is what I found.
McKaylie asleep in the hall, in a clothesbasket of all places.
And Noah, he actually fell asleep at the end of Vance's bed, but moved to the floor in the hall when Vance bumped him.

Well, they did fall asleep quickly, just not where I would have expected them to fall asleep.
A simple task...............

Yesterday I was changing the batteries in my grandfather clock. There are 5 different batteries in it and it has a wood panel that you slide up to access the back of the clock. I struggled with tying to hold it and change out the batteries and it wasn't working very well, but I really didn't want to take out the wooden panel completely because, well, because I was just being lazy! Finally I got the panel to stick a little and it stayed up for awhile.......................In the middle of changing the batteries.....WHAM!........down it came..................on my fingers! It was just two fingers, but it hurt so bad that I could hardly catch my breath! As I was struggling to breathe and get ice for my fingers, I heard little snickers from behind me...............it was Myshel and Vance..............through their giggles they managed to ask if I was ok, but it wasn't very heartfelt. KIDS! They're out of the will! Anyway, my fingers are still a little swollen today, definitely bruised and sore to the touch, but I think they'll still work. In the back of my head I'm thinking "if you would have just taken out the wood panel then this wouldn't have happened, next time just take out the wood panel..............HA, next time, the kids are changing the batteries!

Myshel with a cell.................
I did something yesterday that I didn't think I'd ever do. I sent Myshel to school with a cell phone. Trust me, I've heard, "mom, can I get a cell phone" and "mom, when do I get a cell phone, everyone at my school has one" at least a million times! The answer is always the same, "when you can start paying for it yourself". And since Myshel and her money have a hard time staying together, that wasn't going to happen any time soon. Actually, Myshel with a cell was never in the plans...........
But, maybe I should explain a little.
Actually, she wasn't going to school exactly. Her class went to King's Dominion to celebrate passing their Algebra SOL test. They left from the school, just after school started. So, she was going to go spend the day at King's Dominion, which is about 1 1/2 hours away (give or take). Now, they were suppose to always have their "buddy" with them, but basically they were on their own and their teacher and chaperone's would check on/in with them every so often. That didn't set well with me completely. I'll admit, I can be overprotective. I do trust Myshel, but I also know that she can get silly and a little irrespossible when hanging out with friends. I mean come on she's 13! No parents or chaperones hanging on their ever move..........hello! Besides, just because I can trust her doesn't mean I can trust everyone else at the park. So, to put my mind at ease and make sure that she had a way to call for help, just in case, I sent her to school with a cell phone. (mostly to put my mind at ease, but we really don't need to linger on that point, too much) Along with this cell priveledge came a lecture about responsibility, earning trust, and not taking advantage of situations, which I have to say she took very well. (mostly, I'm sure, because she really wanted to take the cell phone with her)
In the end, she proved herself to be very responsible and didn't take advantage of the situation at all. She was even a very good daughter and put my mind at ease by calling and checking in with me several times throughout the day.
